The cycling & Halong Bay are over, but we still have another 5 days in Hanoi. The bay was beautiful but very disappointing with the amount of rubbish in the water, It was absolutely full of plastic bags and any household rubbish you could name. The water was disgusting and I am sure a health hazard. This would have to be one of the most beautiful places and its treated like a rubbish tip. It is unbelievably crowded with hundreds of boats and many thousands of people. Our boat was old but quite comfortable, with every cabin air conditioned and with an ensuite. This is a massive post today with countless pictures of this magnificent bay.
We also went through a giant cave in one of the mountains.
The amazing view I had when I reached the top of the 425 step climb on the island.
Saddling up for our final ride.
Everyone taking pictures of something.
Broken boat
The ocean is the rubbish tip. It is disgusting.
The ocean is full of plastic bags and other disgusting stuff
Servo wrecked by the typhoon as were many other buildings
Getting off the bikes for the final time.
Awaiting boarding at Halong Bay
On the bus
Plenty of rubbish
I climbed to here
Crazy crowds at the top of the mountain.
Going ashore
Crew fishing while passengers ashore
Carmel (or Camel as we now know her)
Paddling through the cave and into the lagoon.
Monkeys at play on an old barge.
Lunch on the boat
Boat cabin
Esuite behind the door.
The water is full of plastic bags & rubbish, sometimes forming little islands.
Some of the crew seeing us off in the tender.
The Germans (Ellen & Rolf)
Some sales people flogging their wares.
This rock formation known as the 'Dick' I don't know how it got it's name. it must have been discovered by Richard someone.
Two trawlers dragging the bottom, there are 2 more just out of shot. There can be nothing left alive in this water.
The boats all heading back to port behind us.
And in front of us. Its a total shit fight back at port.
Arriving at our Hanoi hotel.
Out for a quick look late in the afternoon.
Train street.
Motor bike repair shop.
And spray painting works.
